we grouped the most famous and popular beaches in the south-west zone, and separated a variety of less known beaches facing sepetiba bay in the west zone section of this site. the beaches in the south-west zone include one of the longest beaches in rio, praia da barra, and eco-wonders such as prainha.

the west zone, on the other hand, is home to a variety of beaches that while are not used for typical swimming and water-sports activities, have a great cultural value and charm, as is the case for praia da pedra de guaratiba - a local landmark rich in history and tradition. also in the west zone is the praia da marambaia, of limited access but of unlimited interest.
