at a glance | located one kilometer from the west zone city center of pedra de guaratiba, praia de capela (beach of the chapel) is an important historical site for the rio de janeiro area. void of any typical beach appeal, this stretch of shore is interesting as it allows a visitor to glimpse in the life of a community that historically depended on the ocean for survival. many fishermen's boats, docked across from the houses they built right on water, create some unique visuals one would not expect to find in rio. a recently added wooden promenade goes along the shore and gives back to the residents some of the space that was taken away from the pollution of the bay. |
