the
legend says that a blind and sick índian woman told the couple
that nossa senhora requested a church to be built by a beach in
a place with many carnation flowers.
the couple did not believe
the woman at first, until the woman,
one morning awoke healthy with her
sight restored.
as a result, jeronimo and beatriz combed the
shores of pedra de guaratiba until they found the perfect spot
to build the chapel of our lady of exile.
the church is now under protection of the
instituto do patrimônio histórico e artístico nacional -
iphan, the
department of historical and
artistic heritage.
