among the many local events, it is on this beach that fireworks for new year's eve and concerts are held for the region. the neighborhood surrounding praia da brisa, called pedra de guaratiba, is a nice, middle-class area with fine dining, lodging, and entertainment beyond the beach. at the eastern edge of praia da brisa is the área de proteção ambiental das brisas (mata do casqueiro), a park created in 1992 to preserve the local flora and fauna.
