the road connecting the rest of rio de janeiro to barra de guaratiba beach (praia grande), the last populated beach before the adventure beaches, goes through a protected area, and as a result the fleet of authorized buses that go back and forth on this line is limited, and rides not very frequent.

getting to this part of the city from zona sul can be time consuming due to traffic and narrow roads, thus we recommend starting the day very early.   

even better, it would be spending one night in a local pousada, so to start exploring right away the following day.
