the governor's island has a very long tradition in samba parades. it is also the home to a rather unique samba school, the g. r. e. s. boi da ilha do governador, 'bull of the governor's island' in english.

sporting the red, the white and the black as its official colors and the black bull as its emblem this group certainly delivers a remarkable visual impact.

 it had its origins in the freguesia neighborhood, in the eastern tip of the island.
