at a glance

the parada de lucas neighborhood is situated in the northeastern edge of rio de janeiro. it is mostly a poor region and its samba schools are also relatively modest.

in spite of this reality the region did have a few samba schools since the 1930s. in 1966, and after a failed attempt in the earlier year, two of them decided to join their efforts in order to create a bigger group.

they were the aprendizes de lucas, which translates as 'lucas' apprentices', and the unidos da capela, or 'united from capela'.   arrow-back     arrow-forward
