adelino moreira, an accredited portuguese and brazilian composer, was the first to compose musical numbers for the school when their first performances took place on the streets of praça onze.

praça onze is said to be the birthplace of brazilian samba. it was there in 1865, after a brazilian victory in the paraguayan war that freed african slaves began to culturally immigrate with the brazilian community.
