at a glance

soon, a new dance beat characterized by the sound african rhythms came to be known as 'samba.' due to the popularity of samba, in 1933, mayor pedro ernesto institutionalized the first city parade of samba schools.

the states of cosmos performed in praça onze until 1952, when cosmo management was banned from parading due to not following aescrj regulations. it wasn't until 1971, when the aescrj mandated new evaluations of samba dance schools that the state of cosmos was allowed to finally parade in carnival as a member of the aescrj.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
