the festa de săo benedito happens every year in april in honor of second patron saint of angra dos reis. the celebration takes place on the monday after easter, and traces its roots back to the colonial era.

though there are many events surrounding the festa, the key occurrences are the outdoor mass at cais de santa luzia and the massive procession and street fair that engage much of the city.

the month of may brings with it more traditional catholic holidays - starting on the first of the month is the festa do bonfim, honoring the patron saint and fishing heritage of the bonfim community in angra.
