august in rio is the ideal month to explore less known celebrations and discover hidden aspect of the city, such as the small neighborhood-island of paquetá - in fact,  every year  the commemoration of são roque, patron saint of the island, and the sailing competition regata patescaria luar de paquetá can be memorable celebrations for all who take part.

also not to be missed is the  international environmental film festival, showing the best annual productions addressing environmental issues from across the globe, or the august's biennial rio book fair that for nearly twenty years featured  appearances of renowned authors. the not-as-famous, yet celebrated Day of the Single (dia do solteiro), is informally revered in brazil, every year on the 15th of August.
