at a glance
june is the month of the festas juninas, a series of celebrations in honor of são pedro, santo antônio and são joão (saints peter, anthony and john, respectively) - these festivities are a popular brazilian tradition, initially brought over by the portuguese during the colonization.

they are also celebrations of caipira culture, which hails from the rural interior of brazil - as such, customary dress for partygoers entails straw hats, plaid shirts, jeans or overalls and drawn-on mustaches or freckles.

closely linked to the northeastern regions of the country, they have since spread to the rest of brazil - in fact, typical foods from the northeast, like sweet corn and fried plantains are still enjoyed on these days, as well as warm drinks like mulled wine or Quentão.     arrow-back      arrow-forward
