the first week in october sees the conclusion of the rio de janeiro's international film festival, the largest international film festival in latin america, and opens a month rich of cultural and historical events. 

in october is the anniversary of the statue of chist the redeemer, along with the day for  our lady of aparecida, (our revealed lady) patron saint of brazil.

as the climate gets warmer and the days longer, social activities across the city increase, with many small events being held in the main establishments, and several small sporting events along the main beaches of the southern zone (zona sul).
