the cooler winter months in petrópolis are the perfect time for rich, winter foods. that's why july through august is the best time for the festival de fondues, racletes e cremes. held at the grande hotel petrópolis, the festival attracts locals and tourists who are looking to sample the mountain area's cuisine amongst the beautiful scenery the region has to offer. seventeen restaurants, hotels, and hostels participate in the annual event - petrópolis is known for its exquisite culinary scene and has even been nicknamed the 'valley of the gourmets.' along with samples of cheese fondues and finger foods, the rich dishes to be served at the event include white carrot cream with shrimp, corn broth with ginger, cream of asparagus accented with parmesan cheese, onion soup au gratin served with crusty italian bread, and gazapacho, the traditional cold spanish tomato soup. | january | |||
