at a glance

for many, the first thoughts that come to mind when thinking about brazil are carnival, samba, beaches, and of course 'futebol', or soccer in english -  it is exactly with this quickness of thought that these depictions of brazil could be delicate conversation topics between foreigners and brazilians.

these representations could potentially be seen as offensive by some and signify a common over, simplifcations of the rich culture that rio has to offer - as with any stereotype, any of these preconceived ideas require the generalization of a group of people.

what some might consider to be a 'positive' stereotype falls under the same taboo category as prejudices about shortcomings or flaws - nobody, carioca or not, likes to be compartmentalized or judged by an ousider.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
