From the Complex one can easily access the famous and well-loved landmark of the church called Igreja de Nossa Senhora Penha de França, a traditional Catholic shrine located atop a large rock and famous for its 365 step ascent.

Each year, the complex hosts one of the most vibrant New Year's Eve celebrations, including fireworks, a wide array of musical performances, food stalls and general cheer. The Complexo do Alemão is a great example of community spirit and solidarity in the face of social challenges, which has led to tangible economic  developments, and impressive manifestations of cultural unity - including a variety of new restaurants and eateries.

at number 20 on Travessa Jalisco, Rejane runs a sweet little tapioca diner called Tapioca da Rejane - Born in Pernambuco herself, it is no wonder that Rejane produces the northeastern delicacy with such finesse. Amongst the faithful customers' favorites are the coconut, dried meat, chicken with white sauce, three cheese, and cheese and ham fillings. For those with a sweet tooth, there is also strawberry, chocolate and condensed milk on the menu. Aside from tapiocas, Rejane  prepares delicious chicken and shrimp pancakes, and coconut sweet treats.
