with a focus on young people, Representações e autorrepresentações: notas sobre a juventude carioca moradora de favelas e os projetos sociais de audiovisual (Representations and self-representations: Notes on carioca youth living in favelas and audiovisual social projects), written in 2011 by Lia de Mattos Rocha presents some results from the study 'Youth and urban crime in Rio de Janeiro: representations and interventions on a 'problem'.

The goal of the work is to understand how young inhabitants of peripheral territories have been involved in the formation of perception of the areas where they live and of themselves. It looks to explore the extent to which these representations corroborate or move away from hegemonic representations, particularly those that appear in newspapers and a number of blogs. Rocha analyzes both, auto-representations coming from within the favelas and external productions 'about' favelas. arrow-back      arrow-forward
