The contest began in 2012, in which year the male cup was won by rocinha and the female cup by Fallet Fogueteiro - The 2015 cup took place in March and was awarded to Madre Miguel in the men's league, and Barata in the female league.

Any favela can sign-up for participation, and the organizers are pleased to take on volunteers to help in the organization and running of the event.

The Centro Integrado de Estudos e Programas de Desenvolvimento Sustentável - CIEDS (Centre for Integrated Studies and Sustainable Development Programs) cultivates projects around the country to promote more effective public policies and strategic social engagement.  

Formed in 1998, CIEDS has instigated and carried out more than 354 projects in the areas of health, culture, education and entrepreneurship.
