at that time the maps would start to present it accordingly with the current nomenclature.

but the island itself would not remain the same up to this day.

during the construction of the br-101 highway, the current main access to the region, carvalho was embanked along with flores and both islands were fused into a single larger body of land, which was then linked to the coast, effectively becoming a peninsula.
