located in the west shore of the
guanabara bay, the 'ilha das flores', or 'flower island' in english, is
part of the neves neighborhood of the metropolitan area of são
gonçalo, state of rio de janeiro.
once known as marim island and sometime time
later as santo antónio island, it is part of a local archipelago
composed from 'ilha das flores',
ilha do carvalho,
ilha da mexingueira,
ananases, and
ilha do engenho.
due to the works for the construction of
the neighboring highway, flores is currently merged with the
shore, being an island mostly in name.
