it is also very close to the top of the jardim de allah canal(jardim de aláh) - this structure serves as drainage for the lagoon, which in the past suffered from problems related with stagnant waters.

the canal goes further south, into the atlantic and around it was built the famous garden of allah, or 'jardim de alah' in portuguese.

on one side of the canal, just south of caiçaras, is the famous ipanema neighborhood, to the other side is leblon.
