at a glance

the neighborhood is home to a collection of great cultural attractions, such as the city's planetarium (planetário), the museu histórico da cidade do rio de janeiro, parque da cidade and the instituto moreira salles.

established in 1970, the planetário comprises an innovative museum, museu do universo, a telescopes' area called the praça dos telescópios, two operating domes, and a library specializing in astronomy, astronautics, astrophysics and physics.

with state-of-the-art facilities, a 300-seat theater offers plenty of entertainment for the whole family -  the 180-degree cinema has a projector that uses optic fibers and high technology to replicate the starry night sky.

this institution is home to an interactive permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions, 40-minute dome sessions, guided tours of the museum and weekly observations of the sky through telescopes.arrow-back      arrow-forward
