at a glance

Private and public institutions, as well as volunteer local associations, have been working together to implement wide scale cleaning efforts in an attempt to improve water quality in the region. In fact, in 2014 praia da bica was officially returned to a 'safe for swimming' status, to the great delight of many locals and sporting enthusiasts.

Although the waters are, for the most part, not currently ideal to be used for swimming, the island's golden coasts can still be enjoyed for its profound and unique beauty, as well as the insight it provides into local culture.

These shores are ideal for many of Rio's wonderers, including those in search of romantic seclusion, or silent and solitary contemplation, providing new insight into the hidden charms of the great, diverse metropolis of Rio de Janeiro.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
