at a glance

the mirante do arvrão (terrace of the big tree), offers a panoramic view of the city beaches that is second to none - it is located high up inside the community of vidigal, overlooking the neighborhoods of leblon, ipanema, lagoa, copacabana, and the guanabara bay as far as niterói in the distance.

the spectacle intensifies at sunset and is most beautiful after dark, when the beaches are illuminated and the lights of the zona sul (south zone) decorate the cityscape like shining jewels, reflected by the waters of the ocean and the lagoa rodrigo de freitas.

on the terrace, there used to be a large tree, that was said to be so huge that it was visible from the 'asphalt' on the bottom of the hill - the mirante was once used as a lookout for the gangs, who ruled this favela community before the pacification process in 2012. arrow-back      arrow-forward
