almost 2.5 kilometers long the são conrado beach is among the best in rio de janeiro and the neighborhood's main attraction. it is ususally less busy than the better known city becaches, due to its concealed location between the gávea rock (pedra da gávea) and the two brothers hills (morro dois irmãos).

this fact and the comparatively high quality of water and waves make this a surfer's paradise, and also a great destination for those who prefer a quieter beach, with plenty of space and privacy.

originally this beach was known as praia da gávea, a name that by some accounts is still the beach's official name.
