Presented by the  Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, the study O bairro de Vargem Grande (Rio de Janeiro) e seu  processo de urbanização,(The neighborhood of Vargem Grande (Rio de Janeiro) and the process of its urbanization), by Clara Machline Ribeiro de Oliveira, aims principally to describe and analyze the process of urbanization in the neighborhood of Vargem Grande and its relation to the production of capital. To that end, it is necessary to understand how Vargem Grande is situated in the capitalist logic and how capital functions in the area. For the development of this research unstructured interviews with residents of Vargem Grande were used, as well as field work. Therein was found a characterization of trade in relation to the so-called ecological aspects of the region. This literature is based on the occupational history of the place as well as a theoretical foundation, aimed at meeting the goals outlined.
