the universidade federal do rio de janeiro (federal university of rio de janeiro) contributes the casa da ciência (house of science)to the valorization of the city as a center for education and for the sciences. the institution is dedicated to learning through theater, music, seminars, classes, and various multi-media presentations

a variety of themes are explored through several expositions throughout the year. visitors are invited to participate and discover a new world and approach to several topics. founded in 1995, the institution's mission is to disseminate scientific knowledge in an interactive and interdisciplinary fashion.

this scientific center also offers audiovisual productions - music shows and plays, as well as traveling projects and exhibits. the space has a total area of 3.000 square meters distributed between its exhibition galleries, theaters, recreation areas and offices.
