at a glance

a number of landmark events brought copacabana into prominence, most notably the building of the copacabana palace hotel, in 1923. in its early years the neighborhood was characterized by mostly single-story homes - over time it was further developed and expanded to become a symbol of glamour and wealth between the 1930s and 1950s.

copacabana became the city's hub of creativity and art, inspiring songs, books and paintings, and was even the birthplace of rio's most famous musical export - the bossa nova.

copacabana has established itself as the most fashionable neighborhood in rio, and the city's most popular destination for visitors from all over the world, who are drawn to its reputation for offering relaxing days and lively nights.

the neighborhood is packed with attractions and recreational opportunities including the parks, copacabana palace and the historic copacabana fort as well as numerous quality restaurants, laidback bars, theatres and shops, not to mention the most famous beach in the city. arrow-back      arrow-forward
