The aim of this dissertation is to analyze the role of the press as a political tool, through the study of two newspapers which played an active role in the political landscape during Getulio Vargas's second government (1950-1954): Última Hora and Tribuna da Imprensa.

further, The objective of this study is to identify the political role played by these two newspapers, which had antagonistic political orientations. We will use the morality campaigns conducted regularly by Última Hora, intended to prevent the degradation of the neighborhood, which had been going through significant changes as a result of the arrival and flow of new visitors to Copacabana's beaches: new residents, vacationers, tourists and bohemian types.

This influx led to a new social composition, and a redefinition of the standards of housing and neighborhood sociability - The campaign resulted in a round table which was attended by the Federal District Chief of Police, General Ciro Rezende, the Chief of Public Attractions and Entertainment, Cícero Brasileiro de Melo, and other personalities deemed relevant for the debate by Última Hora.
