the 'bica da rainha' - spout of the queen is a small fountain named after dona maria mother of the king dom joão vi, who used these waters attempting to better her health.

 furthermore, cosme velho is the site of the historic mansion, solar dos abacaxis, more commonly known as casa rosa, once the home of brazilian poet, anna amelia carneiro de mendonca. it is another example of the neoclassical architecture that is characteristic of the area.

also in cosme velho is the museu internacional de arte naif do brasil (mian), displaying the largest collection in the world of painting 'naif,' a style based of lively colors and irregular strokes.
