Presented by the Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, the study O Brasil de Tom Jobim na voz de Frank Sinatra: um estudo sobre - tradução, música e cultura (Tom Jobim's Brazil in the voice of Frank Sinatra: a study about translation, music and culture), by Marina Silva Maximiano aims to show how elements of Brazilian culture were introduced to other countries through translations of Bossa Nova songs. A comparative analysis of the original and translated versions of three of Tom Jobim's songs is made: ('Sabiá'/ 'The Song of The Sabiá', 'Garota de Ipanema'/ 'The Girl From Ipanema', 'Água de Beber'/ 'Drinking Water'). This analysis is based on the concepts of domestication, foreignization (Venuti, 1995) and cultural identity (Venuti, 2002 (1998)). |
