at a glance

Antônio, like his uncle, bestowed the land onto his son, João da Costa Passos. João was, in 1827, director of the Nossa Senhora de Copacabana Chapel, Head of the 'little church', raised before 1746 (probably in 1732) and afterwards demolished.

In the meantime João did not remain with the Ipanema lands, selling them in 1820 to Inácio da Silva Melo - Inácio, on his death in 1843, left everything to his nephews, Francisco da Silva Melo and Francisco Nascimento de Almeida Gonzaga and they, soon afterwards, sold everything in 1844 to Bernardino José Ribeiro.

In the following year, Bernardino sold everything to the French businessman Carlos Leblon (who was indeed called Carlos, and not Charles as many claim) who installed at the end of the beach his farm and fishing and wailing business, the 'Aliança'. arrow-back      arrow-forward
