at a glance

The principal focus of our work is to think of Laranjeiras Palace as a means, launched by the Guinle family, of consolidating their importance in the elite carioca society of the Primeira República (First Republic) and to create a familial monument which would justify their prominent social position. laranjeiras Palace was formed in accordance with the architectural fashion of its time, Eclecticism.

The form of architectural production called Eclecticism came about in the first half of the 19th Century and is characterized by the use of past architectural forms united in the same building without necessarily according to one historical period - Eclecticism also expressed the influence of history on architectural theory and practice of the 19th Century, marked by the tension between the new and the old, the modern and the traditional. This type of architecture was used by leaders of urban reform in Rio de Janeiro, which took place between 1903 and 1906, as a means for creating a Brazilian republic and establishing links with the modernity of Western Europe in that period. arrow-back      arrow-forward
