at a glance

the favela of morro da babilônia is built on a sharp gradient of hill between copacabana beach and botafogo - it is situated in the neighborhood of leme and dates back to the late 19th century, when an observation post was set up on the ridge.

the views from the morro da babilônia go well beyond just the gorgeous landscapes - in fact, due to the position of the hill, and the trails needed to get to the summit, this mirante lets visitors peek into history as much as into nature.

there are beautiful sceneries to be enjoyed throughout the trip up the mountain, however the true and unforgettable reward comes once the very top is reached - from there the views include the statue of christ on corcovado, botafogo bay, flamengo beach, urca, praia vermelha, and the sugar loaf, all at once.

we highly recommend all hikers to enjoy rio's mountain trails accompanied by an experienced and certified hiking guide.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
