cablecar departures are scheduled every 20 minutes so from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm - it costs r$53 for an adult and r$26 for children (under 12-years-old) for a return trip (prices are subject to change) - the length of the cable is 1,400 meters long, and throughout the journey the views are just amazing.

one of the first recorded climbers of sugar loaf was an english woman going by the name of henrietta carstairs who is reported to have scaled the mountain in 1817 - she would have placed a union jack flag atop only for it to be ripped down the next day by a disgruntled portuguese soldier, who swiftly replaced it with the green and red of the portuguese flag.

a few years later, in 1877, three english men - j. oliver, e. benest, and j. branner became the fourth, fifth and sixth people to climb sugar loaf but they wisely placed a brazilian flag on the mountain's summit as to not offend.  arrow-back      arrow-forward
