from the sugar loaf, one of the most complete front views of rio can be enjoyed, and definitely one of the most unforgettable 360 degree views of the surrounding area - christ the redeemer can be seen in the distance, along with copacabana beach, the dois irmãos, pedra da gávea, the cagarras islands, the morro da urca, botafogo bay, flamengo park, glória, the center of town, the bridge rio-niterói, praia de icaraí in niterói, ilha fiscal, and the coastline towards the região dos lagos (baixadas litorâneas).

in order to reach the summit of sugar loaf mountain it is necessary to take two cable-cars, one which runs to the summit of morro da urca which standing 220 meters, before catching the second car which climbs to the top of sugar loaf's dizzyingly heights.

the cable-car, nicknamed the 'bondinho' in portuguese, was built in 1908 by augusto ferreiro ramos, a brazilian engineer -  since opening in 1912 the cable-car has become famous around the world and is able to carry 75 passengers at one time.   arrow-back      arrow-forward
