Situated between the Atlantic Ocean, the Lagoa (Lagoon) and the magnificent Morro Dois Irmãos (Two Brothers Mountain), Alto Leblon is one of the most privileged locations in the city. It is regularly the setting for the country's beloved novelas (soap operas), and is home to some of the city's elite. Until the final decades of the 19th Century Leblon was a sandy expanse occupied by farms. In 1845 it was bought by a French businessman called Carlos Leblon, who lent the neighborhood its current name. In 1878 some of the area was sold to José de Guimarães Seixas, a Portuguese abolitionist who offered his land to runaway slaves. Presented by Prefeitura do Rio de Janeiro, the study Fachada do antigo Hotel Leblon,(The facade of the former Hotel Leblon) analyzes alto leblon, and is a precious source of historical information for the whole district - generally, the green streets of this neighborhood offer a calm and relaxing atmosphere for visitors. on this page we listed all neighborhoods in rio, including unofficial neighborhoods, divided by city zone - this map shows all neighborhoods in rio de janeiro, grouped by city zone: zona oeste in pink, zona norte in green, zona sul in light green, and zona central in beige. |
