at a glance

shortly after gaining his new possessions he went on to create a sugarcane mill, and he also ordered the construction of a chapel in the location known as 'curral falso', or 'fake stables' in english - this was the first steps in the occupation of the whole of the santa cruz region.

monteiro would die years later, and his widow went on to donate the lands to the jesuit priests who were then starting to arrive in the colony, in a move which would earn them a great deal of power and influence in brazil.

the area of curral falso went on to become one of the prime waypoints within the santa cruz neighborhood. today it still remains relevant in that role - it contains the vital cesarão square, a crossroads through which pass some of the main venues of the entire west region. arrow-back     arrow-forward
