vinícius restaurant and show bar is one of the finest places in rio de janeiro to catch some of the city's original bossa nova style.  it still stands as a 'temple of bossa nova', in the genre's rightful home.  ideally located in the heart of the fashionable ipanema neighborhood, vinícius is just a stones throw away from the iconic ipanema beach, where bossa nova was first popularized.

originally named varanda de ipanema, the venue was opened as a restaurant, in 1977.  after the inauguration of the show bar, vinícius established itself as a great bossa nova venue, in a city bustling with live music.

the opening of the show bar was a meaningful event, with the legendary carlos lyra putting on a memorable show for the anticipating crowd.  since then, the bar has gone from strength to strength, with great performers such as tito madi and johny alf blessing the stage, adding to the vinícius's reputation as one of the best bossa nova spots in the city.
