at a glance

a soft and indulgent ball formed of condensed milk, chocolate, and butter, coated with sprinkles. the name means, 'brigadier', as a tribute to brigadier eduardo gomes who ran for president of the republic in 1946 - he was quite popular with the ladies, whom organised parties and distributed 'brigadeiros' - bake-sale style, to promote his candidacy.

even though gomes' did not become president, the brigadeiros were a huge success, and continue to be one of cariocas' favorite treats - today, there are many versions of the original brigadeiro such as the beijinho, casadinho, and cajuzinho, where some ingredients are slightly altered with sugar, coconut, cashews, and more.

these super sweet treats can be found at children's parties, engagement parties, and many other special events, in addition to a local café or confeiteria.                arrow-back      arrow-forward
