the christmas tree at lagoa rodrigo de freitas is set up between october and mid-november. the tree is inaugurated during the last days of november or the first days of december, depending on the year, with a big celebration including fireworks and live music shows by a variety of local celebrities. thousands of people attend the inauguration, as this is now one of the most important events in the city's calendar. the christmas tree remains on the lagoa to be admired until the 6th of january, the epiphany.
