the hike begins in the elegant parque lage, and winds through the crowded forest, until eventually reaching the top, at an altitude of 704 meters. on the journey, hikers are treated to rare species of native vegetation, as well as the regular sightings of capuchin monkeys, toucans, hawks, squirrels and skunks.

another favorite hiking trail, in rio, leads astounded participants up the famous pão de açúcar, or sugarloaf mountain. one of the postcards of the city, many visitors do not realize that it is possible to hike to the peak of sugar loaf, as the popularity of its cable car often overshadows the noble climb to the top, which can be accomplished, with a number of different trails of varying difficulties.
