in 1958 the metropolitan federation of archery was created in the city - national events were made in that same decade and in the 1970s brasil started to gain international recognition in the arching community.

the country has competed in four olympics and several pan american games - in 1991 the brazilian confederation of archery was created to further develop the sport with sponsorhips and recruitment. the current archery following in rio is janeiro small but growing - the population that particpates in the sport is a devout group of cariocas.
