with the invention of the gasoline powered car in 1886, it is not surprising that auto racing followed pursuit shortly thereafter. the curiosities of driving abilities and the competetive nature of humans were the perfect combination to produce the first competitive auto race in 1894.

the 127 km, 31 mile, race started in Paris and ended in Rouen, France - the race took the champion count jules-albert de dion six hours and fourty right minutes with an average speed of 19km per hour. in the early 1900s motor racing started in brasil, and around 1934 official races were taking place on a 7.9 mile circuit in the neighborhood of gávea.
