at a glance

For thousands of years humans have exercised their skills with bows and arrows - archery was first created to hunt and kill animal prey but nowadays, along with hunting, individuals compete to test their skills and talents on targets.

since archery is a practice that developed seperately around the world the initial competitions and sets of skills varied depending on country and city. the indigenenous communities of south america have a long history with bow and arrow hunting, but the history of archery in rio de janeiro developed independant from these communities.

in 1955 adolpho porta, deeply impressed by a portuguese cabinet makers archery equipment, decided to bring the sport to rio de janeiro.  arrow-back     arrow-forward
