in the 20th century mestre bimba was offended by the 'sloppy' capoeria he witnessed on the streets and wanted things to change - he pushed for formalized structure in capoeira and initated the 'regional' movement. shortly after the 'regional' school of capoiera was formed, mestre pastinha initiated the training of 'angola'.

angola and regional capoiera exist up until today and facilitate the education of students and masters around the world - within a well known framework, participants exhibit particular movements and music. modern day capoeira is brazil's national sport - it is taught in elementary schools, professional associations, and to the military.
