the beginning of the trail to the top is on estrada da serrinha de Itaipú, the road which connects itaipú to Itaipú - it is of low to moderate difficulty, being steepest around the bottom and right before the peak, and can be completed in around an hour and a half.

but time is not of the essence when climbing mourão, as there are periodic scenic outlooks as well as a dazzling assortment of flora and fauna. animals found here include hedgehogs, armadillos, skunks, oncillas (jungle cats) and a variety of birds. the plant life here is also quite diverse, though the most common groups are orchids, bromeliads, and trees typical to the atlantic forest biome.
