while going it alone is certainly an option, the trails are known to be quite rugged, so curious adventurers should take advantage of a guided hiking tour.  there are also rock climbers who regularly climb the back of the mountain - known as one of the most expansive urban climbing areas in the world, sugar loaf offers more than 250 routes.

this granite rock mountain is not only valuable as a tourist destination, but it is also recognized as a major geological site in the world, as named by the international geological congress in 2000 - isotopic studies using sensitive high-resolution technology have recently placed the age of the mountain to be at 560 million years.
