the regional airport santos-dumont is rio's local airport, with flights within the state of rio and between many of the major cities in brazil. it is often used for travel between rio de janeiro and săo paulo in particular - with over four million people having used this connection since its creation back in 1936 - at that time a direct connection between the two cities was carried out with junkers 52, which are 17-seat planes. it is quite common for business people to travel to and from these two major cities on the same day, seeing as the locality of the airport is in central area of the city.
