however, there were only nine trips between the two aircrafts in total - after the hindenburg disaster of 1937, the use of zeppelins was disabled. in fact, the zepelin hindemburg did travel to rio de janeiro, and landed at this base on july 13th 1936, transporting the famous swiss architect le corbusier, in brazil to meet with iconic architects lúcio costa and oscar niemeyer. the hangar was named 'bartolomeu de gusmăo airport' and became a training base for the first fighter aviation group for combat over italy.
